Metropolitan Area Planning Organization (MPO) Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) – This Plan is what drives the proposed Route 133 Reconstruction Project for downtown Essex. It also highlights transportation planning for more major State highways such as Route 128. The presently-approved version is the FY07-FY10 Plan. The FY08-FY11 Plan is under development by the MPO.
Essex Open Space Plan – The Essex Open Space Committee recently submitted and had approved by the State a revised Open Space Plan that describes how open space in Town could be acquired and managed in the future. Public Meeting Rules Applicable to the Committee – The rules the Committee must follow are the same as the rules any public municipal body in the Commonwealth must follow – the Open Meeting Law. The above link leads to a summary of the Law (scroll to the municipal section).
Community Development Plan – This Plan was a result of the Town’s participation in a grant funded by Executive Order 418. The Plan highlights some high level planning themes that were developed via public input several years ago.
Community Development Strategy – The Strategy was the first step toward implementation of the Community Development Plan (see above). The Strategy was a required element of the grant application that led to grant funding for the Town’s new Senior Center.
Build-out Maps – These maps were generated by the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission as part of the Executive Order 418 planning process discussed above. The maps attempt to demonstrate various growth patterns and potential future land uses based on existing zoning, natural features, and extensive public input.
