United Way
The United Way of Massachusetts Bay has started a relief fund for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Cash grants may be available.  For more information, please call 2-1-1

Utility Updates

Utility companies have been prevented from shutting off residents’ power during this state of emergency. 

Additionally, please remember that low-income residents may be eligible for discounted electricity and gas rates.  Fuel Assistance is also available through April 30.  All Fuel Assistance customers are eligible for these discounted rates.  For more information, please contact Action, Inc.

Housing

Through the State of Emergency, all evictions are currently on hold through April 21.

Veterans

Are you a Veteran or a Surviving Spouse of a Veteran?  There may be some financial benefits available through The Eastern Essex Veteran’s District.  Please contact the office for more information at 978-356-3915 or via email at either ktyler@eessexvets.com or kcollins@eessexvets.com

Taxes

The Internal Revenue Service has announced a delay on the April 15th tax filing and payment deadline to July 15.  At this time (3/24/2020), Massachusetts has not extended the filing deadline.  You may apply for an extension, but that would not apply to any payments due.

Unemployment

The 1 week waiting period for unemployment was waived effective 3/18.  Unemployment benefits may be paid immediate for those workers for are impacted by the pandemic and quarantines.  This legislation will expire 30 days after the state of emergency expires. Additionally, all requirements regarding attending seminars at MassHire career centers have been suspended.  All appeal hearings will be held by telephone only.
