Parking Clerk

Parking Regulations

Please refer to Chapter 5 Article 4 of the Town of Essex bylaw for general prohibitions on parking in Essex: Bylaw.

Parking Tickets

The Parking Clerk handles the processing and appeals of all parking violations for the Town of Essex according to M.G.L. Ch. 90 § 20A 1/2.

Parking Tickets may be paid in person, by mail, or online. Payment must be received (not postmarked) within 21 days to avoid late fees. If any portion of the original fine or penalty remains unpaid, additional penalties shall accrue. Failure to pay all or a portion of a parking violation or penalties shall result in RMV non-renewal of license/registration.

Please note: Parking ticket appeals must be made within 21 days of the date of violation otherwise they will not be considered. All appeals must outline why the ticket was written unlawfully. If you are able, please be as clear as possible indicating where you parked. Photographic evidence is most helpful in making a determination, but not necessary. Appeals may be in person or in writing. Written appeals do not need to be on the prescribed form, however must include all identifying information. All decisions are final.

Resident Parking Stickers

Both Transfer Station Stickers and Resident Parking Stickers allow for Essex residents to park in areas labeled "Resident Sticker Parking Only." Visit the DPW for Transfer Station Sticker information or the Town Clerk for Resident Sticker information.

Winter Parking Ban

Chapter 5 Article 3 of the Town of Essex Bylaws includes a Winter Parking Ban which is in effect every year from December 1 to April 1. During the ban, no parking is allowed from midnight until dawn on any street in Essex with one exception: all night parking is allowed year round on the 'odd' numbered (easterly) side of Pickering Street.  Violators may receive a $50 parking citation. Vehicles will be subject to towing during a storm.
