Board of Health Adopts Solid Waste Regulation

At a public meeting held on October 12, 2023, the Board of Health adopted a regulation titled "Rules and Regulations for Removal, Transport, and Disposal of Solid Waste or Recyclables in the Town of Essex."  This regulation, available here, includes an annual permitting component along with the requirements for both commercial and residential recycling in accordance with 310 C.M.R. 19.017, the Massachusetts Waste Disposal Ban. 

Effective January 1, 2024, all private haulers of solid waste and recyclables must be permitted by the Board of Health.  Private haulers of solid waste may apply for annual permit to operate in the Town of Essex through our online permitting portal.   Questions about this regulation in general or about the permitting process specifically should be directed to the Board of Health office at 978-768-7614.
