Mosquito-Borne Diseases
MOSQUITO CONTROL INFORMATION AND UPDATES
Mosquitoes and ticks are more than pests. They can carry diseases which can you make very sick.
In 2023, Massachusetts had six confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) and zero confirmed human cases attributed to Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or EEE. We advise you to stay inside when mosquitoes are active (between dusk and dawn). If you must be outside while mosquitoes are active, we urge you to wear long sleeves and pants, and use insect repellent.
Mosquitoes and ticks both carry diseases that are harmful to humans. In addition to using personal protection to avoid mosquito bites, please empty standing water from containers around your home, the breeding habitat for mosquitoes carrying WNV.
